The clients for this project had bought a modest bungalow and garage on a rural site in South Oxfordshire.
Coupdeville were engaged to look at design options for a new build or an adaption of the existing property. Given the budget we took the view that we needed to retian the existing structures and adapt them to the new programme. The buildings were reconfigured internally with the garage building ceilings opened up create a vaulted space.
A new glazed link building was introduced between the buildings which forms the entrance and organisational point of the building. The new building forms an L shaped and we collaborated with Caroline Butler Landscapes to create a series of courtyard and external spaces.
The entire building was re-insulated and a timber cladding applied to all walls and roofs in reference to the traditional barns in the area and to provide a cohesive whole to the building.
